Sinonim was founded in 2014 as a brainchild of three very good friends. Igor, Mario and Siniša found that the Croatian market had an underdeveloped translation industry compared to other countries in Europe and the world, which prompted them to take the opportunity and start their own translation agency.
In a very short period of time, we went from three friends translating on their own to eight full-time employees at our Osijek office and dozens of freelancers working with us across the globe. However, this is just the beginning. Team spirit, appetite for work and readiness to take on challenges are our main motivators. Translation is not just a job for us – it's a passion and a way of life. We do what we love and what we enjoy, so each challenging project and short deadline comes as a new shot of adrenaline and an opportunity to bring another translation episode directed by Sinonim to a successful end.

Igor is a finance and marketing specialist with years of experience in those fields. At Sinonim, he is in charge of financial operations, client relations, purchasing and other supporting activities. Our CFO always keeps up with recent tech developments, so you’ll never catch him without a smartphone in his hands. Off work, he enjoys tennis and soccer.

Mario is a seasoned language professional with a treasure trove of industry-specific knowledge and skills that he has built into the success of Sinonim. He is in charge of in-house projects and work processes, making sure that all projects run smoothly from the professional and technical points of view. Mario enjoys music, movies and learning new languages.
Siniša Bućan, Co-founder

Siniša came up with the business idea that later became Sinonim, where he combined his experience in copywriting and content marketing with his love for languages. His domains at Sinonim are communication with clients, partners and external associates, project outsourcing and HR matters. In his free time, Siniša enjoys music, movies, concerts and traveling.
Marketing and Sales Manager
Ivona is a Master of Cultural Studies and Media Culture with international experience. At Sinonim, she is in charge of the marketing strategy of the company, managing social networks and communicating with local and international clients. She engages in recreational sports, loves crime novels and has an unhealthy obsession with documentaries on great white sharks.
Jure graduated in Translation and Interpreting Studies and Pedagogy at the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences in Osijek. At Sinonim, he translates, edits and proofreads. Jure is our office foodie, but besides cooking and trying out new foods, he likes to read novels, travel and learn new languages. He enjoys physical activities and the company of pets, especially his dog Misty.
Mateja is a Master of English Language and Pedagogy, specialized in translation and interpretation. At Sinonim, she translates, edits and proofreads. A huge music and books fan, she would rather play board games with good friends than have a night out. Most importantly – she simply cannot start her day without a strong cup of coffee and good music.
Ana is a Master of English Language and Literature and Croatian Language and Literature Education. At Sinonim, she translates, edits and proofreads. She is the grammar police of the office and can watch the entire season of a TV show in one day. She also likes to read a lot, enjoys traveling, doing puzzles and just can’t live without her cat Ahmed IV.
Ivana is a Master of Cultural Studies and Media Culture. Even before graduation, she decided to specialize in marketing and graphic design, thus she devoted her time to working in the field of social media marketing and improving her graphic design skills, which she particularly enjoys. She is generally interested in art and design, so she usually spends her free time drawing, listening to good music and watching movies.
The multitude of languages in our portfolio requires a wide network of reliable and professional associates. All our associates are native speakers of their target languages, ensuring excellent translations in the spirit of the language for our clients. We make sure our translators are highly skilled and reliable language experts with ample experience, so we can complete any project with no hassle and no worries for our clients and partners. That is why both our in-house and outsourced resources undergo a testing process determining the quality of their work, reliability and other skills necessary for exceptional client service, whether in translation, editing, proofreading, copywriting or subtitling.
We entrust our projects only with people having the right education, mindset and experience. In addition, our translation process includes quality assurance – a checking and revising process carried out to make sure that the target files meet our minimum quality criteria. This is done with the use of CAT tools and QA software, so as to minimize the possibility of human error. Target file delivery only follows when we find that the project is fully completed and free of spelling and other errors. However, this does not mean that we think we’re perfect – our services are done by humans, and some mistakes may find their way to the final version. In those rare cases, we will work with our clients and partners to make sure that any omission is remedied and there is no recurrence.
