If you’ve ever had to convert a complex PDF document into Word, you know that the process can completely disrupt the formatting and appearance of the source document. This quite often happens in the translation process when the only available document is a non-editable PDF. To keep the translated document identical to the source, a service known as Desktop Publishing (DTP) is required.
DTP refers to graphics design and layout creation using professional software. DTP originated in the early 1980s when it was used exclusively for printed publications. Today, DTP is a service that is often provided in conjunction with the translation service itself, so that clients can receive translated documents (most often in PDF format) without any losses in terms of formatting and design.
Usually, converting from PDF to Word using optical character recognition (OCR) software results in significant distortion of the appearance, graphics, and formatting of the original document. Photo captions, charts, forms, or other illustrations may be inadvertently moved, shortened, or even lost altogether. Since some languages take up more or less space when written than others, the translated text requires adjustments to maintain the design and layout of the original. These are exactly the problems that we can solve for you with DTP.
